Project Description
During the realisation of the renovation and expansion of De Maaspoort, the front facade was modified with a glass facade and became part of the Maasboulevard and all existing spaces were renovated.
The large theatre/concert hall has been expanded. This hall is acoustically suitable for theatre and musical theatre performances (opera, classical ballet) and is the symphonic concert hall for northern Limburg. The acoustics are completely naturally adaptable to these uses. By means of variable absorption and reflection (curtains, adjustable sound baffle, orchestra room on stage) the reverberation time is adjustable from approx. 0.9 seconds for theater, 1.4 seconds for opera and 1.8 seconds for symphony orchestra and the reflection behavior is also optimized for these uses.
In addition, the theatre has expanded to include a new theatre auditorium on the second floor with a flexible capacity of 350 seats on a retractable grandstand and balcony or 900 standing seats.
Halls
Rabobank Venlo Hall, theatre hall 800 seats
Frans Boermans Hall, multipurpose hall 350 seats/900 standing room
Piet Kingma Hall, flat floor hall 200 seats

- In team with the external project manager, architect, structural engineer and building installation, co-drafting the Program of Requirements, sketch design through to specifications and providing execution guidance on building physics and acoustics during construction.
- Reviewing architectural and installation design for building physics and acoustics.
Result
The halls are praised for their phenomenal acoustics and good sightlines. The theatre halls are also extremely flexible in use.
