Our advice

The complete theatre technology, acoustics and building physics advice, during the various project phases from 1996 to 2001:
– Feasibility study for site selection
– Drawing up Program of Requirements
– Technical assessment of the competition designs submitted by the architects

– Preliminary Design
– Final Design
– Specification Phase and Technical Design

– Tender and award of theatrical installations and furnishings
– Implementation supervision during construction
– Completion and aftercare.

The advised theatre technology parcels mainly consist of theatrical mechanical systems (lifting and hoisting systems), theatrical lighting, theatrical sound and electroacoustic systems, projection facilities, theatrical seats (designed by the architect) and automatic seat trolleys orchestra pit, public address systems, variable acoustics (in particular the retractable sound baffles (executed as a work of art) and retractable acoustic curtains at the top of the auditorium, which turn the theater into a full-fledged opera), theatrical curtains and fabrics and electrical facilities t.b.v. theatrical technology.

Because the Great Hall of the Doelen was closed from April to mid-September 2009 for a large-scale renovation, our acoustic and theatrical advice was used to install a removable orchestra room on stage in Het Nieuwe Luxor, making classical symphonic concerts possible. This consists of mobile extendable and collapsible wall towers and pull-up ceiling baffles. Quick conversion between theatre and concert situations is a requirement. See video below.

The concerts of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra took place in the theatre during that period, and the orchestra room remained available for concerts thereafter as well
