Project Description

New construction of film and music-theatre LantarenVenster in Rotterdam’s Kop van Zuid district.
In addition to four cinema/movie rooms, LantarenVenster also has a multifunctional hall for multicultural and musical activities and an exhibition space. The contemporary café-restaurant contributes greatly to its operation.

On behalf of our client, PBTA was responsible for monitoring and consulting in the areas of Building Physics, Acoustics and Fire Safety. In addition, PBTA was responsible for the design of the (theatre) technical equipment and projection technology, such as seats, sightlines, movie screens, lighting, sound, projectors and projection booths. Our experience with audiences, personnel and artists in theatres and cinemas was also used for design of routing-flows and escape routes.

Typical of this project was the time pressure. Construction had to be completed in 1.5 years. This was achieved through daily consultation and close coordination between all parties involved. Because of the location in a residential tower, inner-city construction aspects such as noise prevention, managing visitor flows in the evening and at night and connection to the building installations were essential.

Halls:
Large hall, multipurpose 300 seats
Hall 2, cinema hall 99 seats
Hall 3, cinema hall 127 seats
Hall 4, cinema hall 91 seats
Hall 5, cinema hall 127 seats
Foyer, 500 seats
