Sustainability and circular construction

Sustainability and circular construction.

PBTA prefers to translate the English term “sustainable” as “conserved. Sustainable development is then “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the supply of needs of future generations” (source: Brundlandt Report, UN 1987).
PBTA makes concrete proposals to promote circular design. Building in such a way that materials are not lost when the building is dismantled in the future. And, not obvious… Using wood instead of stony materials raises acoustical issues, as wood is not nearly as heavy as concrete and brick. PBTA offers you the know-how needed to answer that design question.
PBTA sets conditions in tenders for the voluminous production of the materials we procure for you and values that when evaluating bids. Chairs can sometimes be reupholstered after the chair frames are refurbished. Wool instead of environmentally damaging impregnated cotton is naturally fire retardant.
A completely prefabricated elevator shaft made of cross-layer lumber is not nearly as heavy as a concrete shaft, so the foundation underneath may not be as robust.
An impressive example of almost complete reuse is the decision to dismantle the Zuiderstrandtheater (PBTA Scheveningen, 2014) and move it to Oss, where it will be integrated in its entirety into the new Theater De Lievekamp.
